In the 1800's Illinois' oak forests once accounted for 60% of the state's tree population and now they comprise only 5% because they are being supplanted by native maple trees and several invasive species. Come help restore a native oak savanna habitat at Lakeview Nature Area on May 8th from 10:30am-1:30pm where we will be planting 25 trees acquired though the support from McDonough County Soil & Water Conservation District, 4H Green communities Tree Program, and Association of Illinois Forestry Committee.
