Who We Are

The Colchester Library Innovation Lab The Mission We are a rural technology hub dedicated to "Applied STEM." By bridging the gap between traditional library services and modern industrial technology, we empower local youth (grades 6-12) to build the infrastructure of tomorrow. What We Do Led by a veteran home builder and supported by technical experts in GIS and Digital Fabrication, our program—Next Generation Innovators—focuses on four primary pillars of sustainable production: Applied Engineering: Students apply structural math and geometry to build solar-powered facilities and robotic systems. AgTech & Food Security: Operating vertical hydroponic "Flex Farms" to produce zero-mile organic greens for the local market. Digital Manufacturing: Running a professional-grade sublimation and 3D printing lab to support local business branding and social enterprise. Robotics & Automation: Integrating sensors and automated irrigation into handicap-accessible community gardens. The Impact We aren't just teaching theory; we are building a self-sustaining social enterprise. Every project—from the solar-powered "Library of Things" shed to our organic produce harvests—serves as a blueprint for rural economic resilience and hands-on career readiness.

What We Do

The Colchester District Library is transforming into a rural hub for sustainable technology and applied STEM. Through our "Next Generation Innovators" program, we bridge the gap between classroom theory and community impact. We are currently building a high-tech ecosystem that includes a solar-powered infrastructure, vertical hydroponic "Flex Farms," and an AgTech-focused robotics initiative.
